Annual Report of Sri Sri Sitaramdas Omkarnath
Samskrita Siksha Samsad 2015-2016

                                The Samsad, a well known Vedic and Sanskrit Institution in Bengal, has been representing the everlasting tradition of India, consequently the Samsad was founded in 1986 and registered under the West Bengal Societies Registration Act. The Samsad is in action to sustain and boost the tradition of  Sanskrit & Vedic learning from last 31 years. It is recognized by the Government of India and Government of West Bengal. It is receiving grants from both the Governments. It is progressing towards attaining the status of centre of excellence. With the view of achieving   its aforesaid objectives, the Samsad attend the following activities during the period of 2015-2016.    

Academic Activities:

             The written examination 1st to 4th year was conducted on December 13th, 2015 by the Samsad. Later on Maharshi Sandipani Rashtriya Veda Vidya Pratishthan, Ujjain, a wing of  Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India conducted the Annual Examination of Veda from 1st to  7th year  on February 9 -10, 2016.

              This year also Samsad conducted it’s own examination in Kolkata  on January 7th, 8th & 9th, 2016 in Prathama, Mahyama & Upadhi as per previous years, according to the prescribed syllabus by the top most scholars of the country. The examination evoked keen interest and as many as 985 students from various district appeared the aforesaid examination.  

The Samsad has a rich publication wing and twenty three books on Indology, Sanskrit and Bengali literature have already been published and few others are in the process.

The Samsad has published the following books till date:

Research Wing:

The Institute is extending facilities to Research Scholars to carry out Research on diverse problems of Indology under the guidance of experts in the respective fields. The Samsad has already established itself as a premier institute in the country in the field of Research. As recommended by the State Government the following projects have earlier been allotted to it by the Government of India:

    1. Compilation of Anthology
    2. Art of Life
    3. Compilation of a Dictionary of Sanskrit Poetics
    4. Iswar Chandra, Bankim Chandra, Swami- Vivekananda, Sri Aurobindo and Rabindranath Tagore in Sanskrit.
    5. Translation of certain Sanskrit Texts into Bengali
    6. Status of Tista-Brahmaputra Valley in Sanskrit Literature, with a special assistance from Smt. Mahasveta Devi(a National Professor) and Mr. Jyotiska Ranjan Sarkar (a Research Scholar).  
    7. Translation of Kavyadarsha and Sahitya Darpan
    8. Pandits : Twentieth Century Bengal’s Contribution to Classical Indian Philosophy.
    9. Reprinting of rare and valuable works on Sanskrit Knowledge System.
      The Samsad has already completed some of the above projects and is carrying on with the rest in the most satisfactory manner.

    Seminars/Conventions / Cultural Activities :
               The Samsad organizes Seminars & Conventions every year for dissemination and exchange of ideas with the relevant topics and issues during 2015-2016. The following Seminars and activities have been organized by the Samsad.

    1. Celebration of ‘Rabindra Jayanti’ was held by Sasmsad on  May 9th, 2015. Dr. Parthasarathi Mukhopadhyay the Director of the Samsad graced the occasion as the chief guest of the function. A cultural programme was also organized by the students of the Samsad.
    2.  ‘Gurupurnima’ festival was celebrated by the students & the teachers of the Samsad in the seminar hall on 31st July, 2015.
    3. 30th Foundation Day of the Samsad was grandly  celebrated on September 6, 2015 at ‘Vaikunthadham’, 107, Southern Avenue, Kolkata- 700 029. The eminent scholars who graced the occasion by their enchanting speeches were Professor Pathasarathi Mukhopadhyay, Director of the Samsad, Dr. Suresh Kumar Banerji, Registrar of the Samsad. At the end Professor Nirmalya Narayan Chakrabarty, Department of Philosophy, RBU moved the vote of thanks.
    4. On September 5, 2015  ‘Teacher’s day’ was organized by the students of the Samsad, where cultural and debating programmes were organized. Sri Subhadeep Mukherjee, Sri Gopal Chakraborty, Sri Chadrasekhar Chatterjee, Pandit Malay Goswami, Pandit Souvik Pahari,Dr.Debabrata Bera,Smt.Amrita Choudhery and Dr. Suresh Kumar Banerji, the Registrar of the Samsad participated in the function. 
    5. Special Lecture : Professor Om Prakash Panday, the former Scientific Adviser of Prime Minister, Government of India who graced the occasion of “Youth Festival” (Sanskrit) spell bound the guests at Birla Art Academy by his gift of the gab on March 3, 2016. In his lecture he emphasized on development and nurture of Vedas and Sanskrit. He also concentrated in spreading the essence of Patriotism through of the country. He profoundly establishes the fact that- the essence and mystery of science is impregnated in the Veda, Moreover he strongly believes that Sanskrit is not only the language of India but it is also the language of the whole world. Many Professors of Colleges & Universities along with the students of various Institutions also participated in this festival.
    6.  “Geeta Jayanti” also celebrated by the Samsad on December 21, 2015 with great enthusiasm. On this occasion rituals, Yajna were conducted by the students of the Samsad.
    7. West Bengal State Level Sanskrit Students talent festival : West Bengal State Level Sanskrit Students talent festival founded by Government of West Bengal was held at Birla Academy on March 11, 2016. The function commenced at 10 a.m. In this prestigious occasion welcome address was delivered by Prof. Parthasarathi Mukhopadhyay, Director of the Samsad, Mrs. Ratna Mitra the founder of Modern Academy graced the occasion as the chief guest. Prof. Om Prakash Padey, the former Scientific Adviser of Prime Minister, Government of India was the special guest of this function. Apart from the students of Jadavpur University, Vivekananda University, Ramakrishna Mission Vidya Mandir, 73 students of various educational institutes participated in this special festival. They debated on the topics of Vedas, Vyakarana, Kavya, Vedanta, Dharmashastra, Sanskrit Sangeet and quiz  competition.   The students were divided into senior and junior groups. The entire function  was conducted by Dr. Buddheswar Sarangi and Dr.Debabrata Bera. The winners and the runners were awarded Medals and certificates.   
    8. Swarasati Puja: This year Swarasati Puja was celebrated on February 13, 2016 with great enthusiasm by the students and teachers of the Samsad head quarter. At the end of the Puja, prasad was distributed among the students and teachers. The cultural programme was also organized in the evening by the students of the Samsad.
    9.  Omkar Panchami  also was celebrated in the Samsad hall on February 28, 2016. This year it carried special significance as 125th Birth Anniversary  of Thakur Sri Sri Sitaramdas Omkarnath Dev. A special wall magazine entitled ‘Sura Sristi’ has been published and written by students, teachers, devotees and well wishers of the Samsad.
    10. Independence Day: Independence Day was celebrated in the Samsad on August 15, 2015. The programme commenced with the hoisting of National Flag by Dr. Suresh Kumar Banerji, Registrar of the Samsad. Along with National song and National Anthem. A short compact programme centraring round the occasion of August 15 was performed by the teachers and the students of the Samsad. At the end sweets were distributed among each other.  

    The Samsad not only concentrates in elevating the activities of the  traditional subjects alone, but also extends the periphery of its helping hand in uplifting  the  students by imparting the basic of science, new scientific developments along with the new sciencetific technologies like computer etc. through discourses on various scientific topics. The games and sports are always encouraged & boosted up by the Samsad through out the year for the all round development of the students. Now a days students are regularly playing Football, Cricket & Volleyball  in the adjoining playgrounds of the  Lake area with great enthusiasm. In the long run the Samsad has achieved its cherished goal by elevating and developing the inner potentialities of its all the students to make them complete human beings.
